Microthyrium lauri Hhn., Kew Bull. 128: 545 (1919)

Description: Hyphae superficial, sub-hyaline, 12 m wide. Ascoma thyriothecioid, mainly epiphyllous, orbicular, up to 200 m diam.; scutellum composed of radiating rows of pale brown quadrilateral cells 34 45 m; those surrounding the ostiole forming a distinct collar, thick walled, dark brown, those at the margin elongated to form a distinct brown fringe up to 5 m or more long; ostiole 457 m diam. Asci obclavate, 3843 79 m, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, 1-septate, narrowly obovioid, straight or slightly curved, 9512 335 (4) m, the upper cell longer and broader that the lower cell, biguttulate, bearing medianly four to six appendages in two tufts connected by a short dark thread, the lower cell rarely biguttulate
