Microthyrium lauri Höhn., Kew Bull. 128: 545 (1919)
Description: Hyphae superficial, sub-hyaline, 1–2 µm wide. Ascoma thyriothecioid, mainly epiphyllous, orbicular, up to 200 µm diam.; scutellum composed of radiating rows of pale brown quadrilateral cells 3–4 × 4–5 µm; those surrounding the ostiole forming a distinct collar, thick walled, dark brown, those at the margin elongated to form a distinct brown fringe up to 5 µm or more long; ostiole 4·5–7 µm diam. Asci obclavate, 38–43 × 7–9 µm, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, 1-septate, narrowly obovioid, straight or slightly curved, 9·5–12 × 3–3·5 (–4) µm, the upper cell longer and broader that the lower cell, biguttulate, bearing medianly four to six appendages in two tufts connected by a short dark thread, the lower cell rarely biguttulate
