Microthyrium cytisi var. ulicis-gallii J.P. Ellis, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 67(3): 393 (1977) [1976]

Description: Hyphae superficial, pale yellow, 12 m wide. Ascoma thyriothecioid, amphigenous, orbicular, occasionally confluent, 230250 m diam.; scutellum composed of radiating wavy rows of brown rectangular to elongate cells 152 m wide; those surrounding the ostiole forming a distinct raised collar, quadrilateral, thick-walled, dark brown, those at the wavy margin elongated; ostiole 68 m diam. Asci numerous, obclavate, 3450 811 m, 8-spored; pseudoparaphyses septate, branched, 115 m wide. Ascospores hyaline, 1-septate, cells guttulate when young, ellipsoid, sometimes slightly curved, 1419 345 m, appendages apparently lacking
