Description: Hyphae superficial, yellowish-brown, indistinctly septate, 1򉣹 祄 wide, abundant. Ascoma catathecioid, orbicular, scutate, clustered to crowded, up to 200 祄 diam.; scutellum composed of an upper wall of radiating rows of dark chestnut-brown quadrilateral cells 36 35 祄 and a similarly constructed lower wall of paler brown cells, those surrounding the ostiole forming a distinct collar 2540 祄 diam., thick-walled, dark brown, the basal ring composed of cells which appear to be perforate, magin entire; setae, when present, attached to the inner ring of the ostiolar cells, dark brown, subulate, 612 祄 long, 34 祄 wide at the base; ostiole up to 8 祄 diam., occluded by a few thin-walled, pale brown, polygonal cells. Asci cylindrical to obclavate, 2840 79 祄, 4- to 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, 1-septate, septum more or less median, narrowly ellipsoidal, 1115 2򉣹5 祄, the upper cell biguttulate, bearing submedianly four to six appendages in two tufts connected by a short dark longitudinal thread, the lower cell rarely biguttulate
