Microthyrium fagi J.P. Ellis, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 67(3): 387 (1977) [1976]

Description: Hyphae superficial, pale yellow to sub-hyaline, 1򉣸 祄 wide. Ascoma thyriothecioid, amphigenous, orbicular, occasionally fused, 80110 祄 diam.; scutellum composed of radiating rows of pale brown, somewhat elongate, quadrilateral to rectangular cells 1򉣸 38 祄; those surrounding the ostiole forming a distinct raised collar c. 25 祄 diam., thick-walled, very dark brown, those at the margin not forming a frill; ostiole 68 祄 diam. Asci numerous, obclavate to pyriform, 2226 57 祄, 8-spored. Ascospores hyaline, 1-septate, broadly ellipsoid to obclavate and slightly constricted at the septum, sometimes curved, 7𥃑 1򉣸 祄, appendages apparently lacking
